It does feel more like a blog series than a book By Kyleian I wish I had had this when I first started teaching, mostly for what I learned by hard experience - you need a studio policy! Lots of helpful tips on that and other things in this book.It does feel more like a blog series than a book, and I prefer other ways of teaching theory than she suggests, but it is definitely a useful book and I recommend it to anyone teaching piano. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Very clear and encouraging! By Liberty Bluebelle This short little work is a very good launching point for anyone considering starting a music studio. Most of it is applicable to any instrument, except the short bit on theory near the end (which wasn't especially clear to me, but should be to someone experienced enough in piano to consider teaching). It offers several ideas for each point presented, and, while being confident, doesn't assert that it is the only way to do it. I appreciated the scripture included and the encouragement to pray often! The only thing I would have liked to see included would have been a note or paragraph with suggestions on what to do when a student wants help with music that is... Uh--hum, objectionable, for whatever reason. That would probably belong under the "Studio Policy" section. Very encouraging work that could be just the prodding needed to get you from "Thinking about teaching" to "Preparing to teach".I don't teach piano and I don't plan toBut I requested this free for an honest reviewFrom my history with music I can tell this is goodAnd all but the theory I well understood! 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great Resource for First Time Teachers! By Nicki Bishop I loved the title. The sentiment is so true! Why? If you are proficient in any instrument, chances are you have already received at least one request to teach! I would highly recommend Amanda Tero's book for advanced piano students who have considered giving lessons, homeschool graduates who would like to begin teaching in their homeschool community, parents or older siblings who have always wanted to teach a family member, as well as worship musicians who have been asked to give music lessons in their church.Ms. Tero gives insight into the ins and outs of running a music studio, policy, which books to use, and how to involve parents in the lesson process. She also promotes a Christ-centered lesson experience, how to teach the hymns (before your young student can play five flats :) ), and how to gracefully deal with challenges along the way. Not only is this a great start for all beginning music teachers, it also offers valuable information which can be used as a reference later. This little volume is a gem for all "music people" who want to share their gifts. Great resource! See all 7 customer reviews...
