www.22gigantes.com - When desire bites, there’s no patience for a slow burn. While all seems quiet in Gladium Province, the Morgon Guard—the global justice force for the dragon hybrid race—knows their enemy is rebuilding its forces in the underground. Valla Moonring, an assassin for the Order of the Morgon Guard, is ordered on a mission into the Wastelands of Aria—a formidable, icy wilderness fraught with all manner of dangers, including outlaws, deadly weather, and big-game predators. To her great distaste, she’s partnered with a Nightwing Security operative, Conn Rowanflame, a Morgon with the aggravating ability to get under her skin. While she takes her mission seriously, Conn’s confident charm throws her off balance, a dangerous place to be in conditions like these. Especially when cold nights require close contact. Sensual attraction binds them ever closer, igniting a passion of unexpected force—the soulfire. But when the hunters become the hunted, their bond could prove perilous. Even fatal…

The world building is superb, the men are all kinds of alpha male sexy, the women are strongand fiesty and the baddies are pretty damn despicable. With a great balance of angst, humor and heat these books fall under the realm of #SeriesIAdore. So, to say that my patience has been tried while waiting for Conn’s and Valla’s book is no understatement, but it was definitely worth the wait! After getting a tease of Conn and Valla and what their relationship was like in Waking the Dragon I couldn’t wait to get to know them both better. Conn I adored and had joined the ranks of a book boyfriend with Kol and Pax. He is every bit the cocky Morgon male and for good reason. He’s sinfully handsome and a trusted member of Nightwing Security. But he is also compassionate, charming and loyal male who, despite a bit of a stubborn streak, is honest and genuine about who he is and what he wants.Valla and I had a bit of an interesting time. I loved the fact that she was a total badass. She has worked hard to become an assassin for the Morgon Guard based on her own merit, not because she is Kol Moonring’s baby sister. She’s highly intelligent and will do anything to protect those she loves, but because she’s been so focused on proving herself she hasn’t lived and it makes her POV a bit narrow. There are times when she is quick to judge and question things that do not fit into her black and white view of the world and it showed that she needed to expand her worldview. BUT what I ended up loving about her was that when given a valid and logical explanation as to why the opposing viewpoint was the better, or correct one she didn’t continue to argue that hers was the best or right one. She would agree and that was that.Conn and Valla’s relationship was very much like watching two elementary school kids picking on each other because they just couldn’t admit that they liked each other. Valla was the more stubborn of the two, though Conn had way too much fun picking at her. There was quite a bit of push/pull going on because both were just way too damn stubborn to see past their own issues even though the chemistry between them on all levels was undeniable. Thankfully they both had people pushing them along, or kicking their asses ~ depending on how you look at it, until they both realized that they couldn’t live without the other.I’m loving how The Blood King arc is progressing and the twists that were thrown in I definitely didn’t see coming, but were very well done. I also had a couple of sniffly/teary moments in this one (so not cool, but bravo Ms. Cross for getting me that involved emotionally). The writing, as always, was excellent and not only did I love spending time with a couple of my favs, but I kinda fell in love with Bowen, Kera, Bastian and Serena and Bekka, though I wouldn’t say I loved her in the same way as the others and can’t wait to see who’s on the mating block next!~ ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review ~ 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. I loved Valla and Conn! By Carol Dragon in the Blood is book two in the Vale of Stars series by Juliette Cross. This book was generously provided to me in exchange for an honest review by the author.Wow, just Wow! What a crazy, wild ride this book was. In this book we meet the little sister of Kol, Valla Moonring. Valla was pretty much raised by her brother, and she was brought up to be a strong, independent woman. She has to be, to be a member of the Morgon Guard. It’s all she can handle dealing with her overbearing brothers. The last thing Valla wants is another alpha man in her life, trying to take away her independence. So Valla has stayed single. She doesn’t feel the urge to be anything but.“Being alone does not make you stronger, Valla. Or more independent. It just means you’re alone.”Valla has been asked to participate in an important mission. Three people, one of which needs to be a woman, are to fly to the cold, desolate wastelands of Aria to speak to the Syren Sisters in hopes of obtaining new information on the evil blood king, hoping to uncover his identity and location. The worst part of the mission is that Valla will be forced to work with Conn Rowenflame. He is the one man who can get her hackles up and seems to enjoy doing so.Conn doesn’t know if he should be happy or not that Valla is going to be a part of this mission. The woman drives him crazy. She rebuffs his every attempt to get closer. Conn can have any woman he wants. So why does it feel so important to have this one, the one woman that doesn’t seem to want him at all.“I was used to getting what I wanted. And I’d never desired a woman more in my entire life.”There are two evil entities at work in this book. We have the blood king and also the poison princess. Both have agendas of their own, both with evil in their hearts and a longing for power.I liked that this book was told from pretty much three different POV’s. Valla, Conn, and also we get some from the perspective of the Poison Princess. Conn, Valla, and the third party in their group, Bowen, all head out on their pursuit. The more time Conn and Valla spend together, the stronger the attraction and at the same time, the frustration. It becomes harder and harder to keep their relationship professional and it takes Bowen to finally recognize what was happening between them. This book is pretty much non-stop from start to finish. These three suffer bitter icy cold, attacking creatures, and make new friends along the way. As their connection grows stronger, they move closer to the ultimate showdown with the evil they seek. And oh my gosh, that epilogue. Juliette Cross, you do like to torture me don’t you?!If you haven’t already, now is your chance to read book one in this series, Waking the Dragon, or better yet, start out with the Nightwing series of novellas. Any or all of these are amazing and will get you all set up and ready for when Dragon in the Blood is released. Juliette Cross’s books are just so amazing and I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.“Come away, come away, come away, my dear,The world will ne’er be kind I fear. When pain and sorrow hurts you too near, then come away…come away…back home.” 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Glad to be back in the world of the Morgons By Heidi Senesac I was so excited to re-enter the Morgon world and I wasn't disappointed by Juliette Cross's new release. The author is so gifted at creating a realistic setting, she makes it seem entirely possible that dragons really do exist.Valla and Conn have been charged with undertaking a fact finding mission through the frigid, desolate land of Aria. Their trip is full of discoveries about the nature of the dragons abducting human women to use as slaves and sacrifices. They also uncover a group of brigand dragons who might not be as criminal as they seem. And along the way, they discover an attraction to one another so incredibly strong, the only thing they can do to lessen the burn of desire for each other is to exchange soulfire, a mating ritual that bonds them for life. A perfect set up in an romance. Except Valla, a badass Morgon Guard Assasin, really doesn't want to depend on a Morgon man for anything.I loved Conn's gentle, calm pursuit of Valla. He recognizes her as his mate, as does every other person around them. Valla seems to be the only one not aware of how brightly his flame burns for her. Or hers for his.Cross's description of the world and the battles undertaken by Conn and Valla are exquisite. She has a gift for plunging a reader into the story, and holding onto their attention and their heart until the characters achieve their happily ever after. Although this is book two in the series, it reads as a stand alone. I loved Dragon in the Blood and would highly recommend it to anyone. See all 18 customer reviews...
