By Elizabeth Mundy Dead Man on Campus is the third - and without a doubt, my favorite - installment in the snarky Josie Tucker mystery series by EM Kaplan, one of my new favorite authors. There were so many things I enjoyed about this book! It's well-written and cleverly paced - while I read the book quickly, it also felt substantial. This is a book that book clubs won't have a problem discussing over brunch, but will also be a dear companion on a road trip with family, when you want to dive into a world away from your family (or so I would imagine). Another playful paradox was Josie's prickly independence - she does what she needs to do to get the job done - and her vulnerability, when faced with questions about her boyfriend, Dr. Drew, and when she finds herself heading up - and caring f0r! - an impromptu Scooby squad of college kids. This novel could stand on its own, but I felt like reading Dead Man on Campus was a richer experience having read the first two books in the series. Not only did I get to see Josie grow and change from prickly reluctant bridesmaid to less-prickly dorm mom, I also got to anticipate familiar themes. Will Josie incur a life-threatening injury? Will she harness the power of technology for good? Will she have tummy troubles?Do yourself a favor and read this book! It's the perfect blend of humor and mystery for the oh-my-God-it's-August-where-did-summer-go blues. I'm excited for Josie's next adventure! 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Another great Josie Tucker mystery! By Amazon Customer This third installment of Josie Tucker did not disappoint! My favorite one yet! These "snarky" mysteries are just so much fun to read - not dark and twisted but surprisingly refreshing and light. The character of Josie continues to evolve in this book and we see a little warmer side of her but, without a doubt, the witty one liners and internal thoughts Kaplan produces for Josie are laugh-out-loud funny. I enjoy that the books are all stand alone reads but you can identify the growing relationships thru the series. My favorite part of this book was the ending - not the unique and unsuspecting wrap up of the mystery solved - but the confirmation of a great read - the way Kaplan articulates and brings to life the characters and their personalities - I may have "giddy clapped" with the last line. Bravo EM Kaplan - Looking forward to the next Josie Tucker mystery! 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. More Josie Tucker! Definitely does not disappoint. By Amy Bush I was incredibly excited about the release of a new Josie Tucker mystery, and it surely did not disappoint. This is my favorite Josie adventure so far! As much as I love independent and prickly Josie, seeing her interact with her new squad was highly entertaining and satisfying. Especially when her squad is a bunch of whippersnappers who make Josie feel old. As if Josie wasn't already grumpy enough.Kaplan's Josie Tucker books are great, because they all stand alone, so you can pick up any of them and read them without having read the others. But then if you read them all, you really start to feel like Josie and Drew and Benjy and company are all part of YOUR Scooby gang. And Josie is your Buffy. Or Betty. Or whatever.
